Bob Stoops’ new book No Excuses: The Making of a Head Coach is now available for purchase. Co-written with ESPN’s Gene gene Wojciechowski, Bob covers all things from his coaching career, including the state of OU Football when he joined in 1998, all the way up to his retirement, and re-emergence as XFL Renegades GM and Head Coach. He also speaks on the challenges through his career, including his decision to not cut Joe Mixon after he punched a woman in the face in a Norman dining establishment.
Per OU Daily: “I could have cut Mixon loose in 2014,” Stoops said. “In 2019, that’s the only choice that would’ve been acceptable. If I were faced with the same situation today, my decision would be much different than the one I made in 2014.”
Stoops also discusses his challenge of having to fire Josh Heupel as OC, who quarterbacked the Sooners to Bob’s only national championship following the 2000 season.
