Even though it happened like 8 months ago, in what is sure to be breaking news for most of us, Bobby Petrino (yes) is apparently Missouri State’s head coach (I know, right?).
Tulsa World’s Eric Bailey indirectly brought this news to our attention while reporting on the Petrino’s preparations for Missouri State’s season opener against the Sooners.
Evidently, something happened over the past 9 months that took our attention away from this January 15th hire.
At the time, it was reported that Missouri State had narrowed down the hiring options to Petrino and former Baylor coach Art Briles. Seriously.
SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum called Petrino the “lesser of two evils“, and “scumbag“.
“I would lean toward Petrino,” Finebaum said when asked if he had to choose one for head coach. “You’re talking about two scum bags here. One is the lesser of two evils. You basically hold your nose and hire Petrino.
“To me, Art Briles is unhirable based on not only what has been reported in terms of what was going on at that program but his lack of remorse. That’s always bothered me of Art Briles.
“I think Bob Petrino showed remorse. I think he at least tried to deal with what happened on the motorcycle.”

Wait, what? The motorcycle?
If you aren’t aware of Petrino’s history at past coaching positions at the college and pro level, note that most if not all of his H.C. tenures ended poorly. If you want to read more, this sums it up very well.
Everyone makes mistakes or questionable choices at times, and everyone deserves second chances. But 4th or 5th or 6th chances. Not so sure.
