OU Football recently took over #1 spot in the ESPN power rankings. Riley will be putting up another top offense with Rattler returning, and the defense should be playing its best since Alex Grinch took over as DC. All signs point to an opportunity to get OU’s first national championship since 2000.
Meanwhile, Patty Gasso’s OU Softball team also won a natty in 2000… and then went ahead and won three more in ’13, ’16, and ’17. They’ve also reached the WCWC 8 of the past 10 seasons.
And this may be Patty Gasso’s best team yet. At 40-1 heading into the final weekend of regular season, they have been ranked #1 in the nation for 10 straight weeks, have 5 players hitting over .400, and have the nation’s highest team batting average of .432. The next next comparable team is Texas at #3 batting .374.
So, the question is, which team has the higher expectations for winning it all this year? Vote below!
Regardless of the outcomes for these two great programs, we as fans, have got it pretty good. And if you only take away one thing from this, it is that you should be watching more OU Softball if you aren’t already. The OU Women finish up the regular season this weekend at Bedlam, then on to Big 12 conference tourney, where they look to defend win their eighth straight champinship, then on to the WCWS.
