While the appearance of Version 9 looks has some tweaks and improvements, behind the scenes, it is a totally new app. Not to get too into the weeds, but v9 has been completely rewritten by yours truly, with the goal of adding new features and functionality down the road.
Aside from the UI changes, the biggest thing you will notice is that we finally fixed the all-time, #1 most complained about thing in the previous version — those annoying videos that keep taking over the screen when trying to read an article. Finally!
There will still be ads (more on possible changes to that, stay tuned), as we’s got to pay the bills, but the video popups were getting out of hand.
In short, websites were adding those to take advantage of some outdated web browser technology that the old version was stuck with. This necessitated the change with the complete rewrite, using newer components that allowed those ads to be better controlled.
There were a lot of folks reaching out about those videos, and rightly so. Thanks for your patience nad continued support. More fun stuff to come!
