Earlier this week was a nice milestone for SoonerApp: It has been 10 years since version 1.0 was released on the App Store. Thank you to everyone who continues to use and support the app!

I remember frantically trying to get the app completed and launched before the 2012 season opener against UTEP, while learning how to be a parent for our newborn baby. 10 years later, I’m still learning how be a parent, only to 3 kids now, and we still have a season opener against UTEP!

A lot has changed the past 10 years for OU football as well, perhaps no changes as drastic as the past year. Here’s to the next ten years!

Version 1 – Concept Art

In spring of 2012, I started working with a designer in Italy to mock up the future app. Not sure who ‘Blacke Bell’ is, but the app was looking great! The big push in app design in those days was skeuomorphism — a fancy way of saying ‘make app look like real stuff’. We went with newspaper print and corduroy, for some reason…

2015 – Flat Design Is In

A complete overhaul under the hood also resulted in a new design. This time, the trend it flat design — instead of making things look real, make them flat. Don’t ask me, I don’t make the rules. Still looks pretty good!

2020 Onward – Tablets, Material Design, and more

More of an iterative change from the 2015 era redesign, expanding into larger form factors, improving the look with Google’s Material Design guidelines for Android. My favorite look to date.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the app. I look forward to seeing what the future brings for our Sooners!
